Atributos químicos e qualidade da matéria orgânica do solo em sistemas de colheita de cana-de-açúcar com e sem queima PAB
Signor,Diana; Czycza,Rodrigo Vianei; Milori,Débora Marcondes Bastos Pereira; Cunha,Tony Jarbas Ferreira; Cerri,Carlos Eduardo Pellegrino.

Carbon stock and humification index of organic matter affected by sugarcane straw and soil management Scientia Agricola

The maintenance of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) straw on a soil surface increases the soil carbon (C) stocks, but at lower rates than expected. This fact is probably associated with the soil management adopted during sugarcane replanting. This study aimed to assess the impact on soil C stocks and the humification index of soil organic matter (SOM) of adopting no-tillage (NT) and conventional tillage (CT) for sugarcane replanting. A greater C content and stock was observed in the NT area, but only in the 0-5 cm soil layer (p < 0.05). Greater soil C stock (0-60 cm) was found in soil under NT, when compared to CT and the baseline. While C stock of 116 Mg ha-1 was found in the baseline area, in areas under CT and NT systems the values ranged from 120 to 127...

Laser-induced fluorescence of organic matter from a Brazilian Oxisol under sewage-sludge applications Scientia Agricola
González Pérez,Martha; Milori,Débora Marcondes Bastos Pereira; Martin-Neto,Ladislau; Colnago,Luiz Alberto; Camargo,Otávio Antonio de; Berton,Ronaldo; Bettiol,Wagner.
Sludge applications have been used to maintain fertility of agricultural soils without damaging the natural ecosystem. The aim of this study was evaluating the influence of sewage-sludge addition on the quality of organic matter (OM) of a Brazilian Oxisol by Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF). LIF was used to analyze OM of whole soil and different soil fractions separated by chemical and physical methods. The high fluorescence contribution of humin fraction to the fluorescence of whole soils was shown, stressing the importance of studying OM associated to mineral matrix of soil. Spectra with different shapes were obtained for every particle size fraction, indicating differences in organic compounds bounded to them. The fraction with the higher carbon content...

Soil carbon stock and humification in pastures under different levels of intensification in Brazil Scientia Agricola
Segnini,Aline; Xavier,Alfredo Augusto Pereira; Otaviani-Junior,Pedro Luis; Oliveira,Patrícia Perondi Anchão; Pedroso,André de Faria; Praes,Maria Fernanda Ferreira Menegucci; Rodrigues,Paulo Henrique Mazza; Milori,Débora Marcondes Bastos Pereira.
ABSTRACT: Intensive management of tropical pastures has shown potential for greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation due to high forage production and C accumulation in the soil. This study aimed to evaluate different pasture management options in relation to their effect on soil C stocks and soil organic matter (SOM) humification. Pastures in four beef cattle production systems were assessed: intensive and irrigated pasture with high stocking rate (IHS); dryland pasture with high stocking rate (DHS); dryland pasture with moderate stocking rate (DMS); degraded pasture (DP). The soil under the native forest was also evaluated and soil carbon stocks from the 0-100 and 0-30 cm layers were assessed. Carbon stocks (0-100 cm) ranged from 99.88 to 142.33 Mg ha−1 in DP and...

Soil Organic Matter Quality in Jatropha spp. Plantations in Different Edaphoclimatic Conditions Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Freitas,Rita de Cássia Alves de; Popin,Gustavo Vicentini; Milori,Débora Marcondes Bastos Pereira; Signor,Diana; Drumond,Marcos Antônio; Cerri,Carlos Eduardo Pellegrino.
ABSTRACT The substitution of native vegetation by agricultural ecosystems can change the quantity and quality of soil organic matter (SOM), and the intensity of these changes depends on the soil type, climate, and land use. The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of organic matter in chronosequences of Jatropha cultivation in contrasting soil and climatic conditions. Soil samples were evaluated at depths of 0.00-0.10, 0.20-0.30, and 0.80-1.00 m in chronosequences located in Planaltina, Distrito Federal (Cerrado-Pasture-Jatropha), Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul (Atlantic Forest-Corn-Jatropha), and Araripina, Pernambuco (Caatinga-Jatropha). To assess SOM quality, we determined C contents in the SOM fractions, C stocks, the carbon management...
